Movie Rapier |
|
I made the mistake of buying the Confederation Handbook, a couple of months ago; and fell in love with some of the ships from the movie. They seem to look better on the book that they do in the movie. That includes the Rapier, the KF-100 Dralthi, and specially the Errant. The Errant has become a modeling obsession overnight, and I haven't started on it, only because I had already started modeling the movie Rapier about a year ago, so I persuaded myself to finish that one first.
Before someone points out the size of the cockpit... That's INTENTIONAL. I think the idea of a 9 meters long space-ship is just too damn ludicrous. MY "movie rapier" is 18 meters long. Period. There are other issues which are actual mistakes. It's not that I don't see them; but just that fixing them would be too much work, so heck...
I'll start unwrapping tonight.
Maverick, I know you're a movie lover ...
Could you capture a couple of Errant screenshots for me?
Specially the bottom-side and back.

Looking great as always Monk. I agree that the cockpit should be smaller, it really makes the ship shine and makes more sense.
Still one of my all-time favorite WC designs, period.
I'll get right on that Errant quest as well.

Thanks! Now I've put the 117b aside again; I wanted to finish the new Demon, once and for all, and throw it into the game (PU), but I couldn't find the final set of textures, for the life of me, so I said heck, might as well... The original mixing was done in Gimp, at 8-bit per channel precision; so now I'm re-dirt-streaking and remixing the Demon texturing, and it's already looking a lot better than before; haven't got to the point of trying it in-game yet, but probably with a few more hours of work I'll get there. Once the Demon is in-game, I get back to the 117b; and then it will be the Diligent/Errant's turn.

A very well done model.
If the fighter is 18m long the cockpit is indeed a little bit big but then all WC ships are a bit out of the scale so who cares as long as it looks good ^_^

Hahaha, thanks, yeah, I exaggerated a bit when I said 18 meters. The official length of the CF-117b is 9 meters, and has a huge cockpit to drive the point. I made the cockpit smaller by eye, but I didn't go as far as half the size of the original; maybe 75%, so I should have said "this ship is 12 meters long, rather than 9"; --but not 18.
Yeah, there's many mistakes I made originally which now, since I bought the Confederation Handbook, I was able to spot. Many of them I fixed; primarily around the engines and wings; but fuselage mistakes are just too hard to fix, so they'll stay, for now.
In recent times I've had to come to accept the existence of the phrase "good enough", otherwise I never finish anything.
Anyways, this ship is on the shelf again , I'm working on retexturing the refinery base for PU, and the most urgent thing to do after that is the asteroid mining base --also re-texturing. Then I'll come back to the 117b.

Re-doing things is the bad habbit of our team search something else ^_^
Anyway I also got stuff that is not finished but I hope someday it will be.
Still it will be interesting to see what it will look like when you are done with it.
